Description

4th of July Cookies are festive, buttery sugar cookies decorated with red, white, and blue sprinkles or icing. These soft and chewy treats are perfect for Independence Day celebrations and easy to customize for any patriotic event.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles or colored sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in red, white, and blue sprinkles or colored sugar.
  7. Place on baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until edges are just beginning to turn golden.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Do not overbake—cookies should be soft in the center.
  • Chill dough for 30 minutes if it’s too soft to handle.
  • Decorate with patriotic icing or star-shaped sprinkles for extra flair.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
