Description

Authentic Greek Chicken Souvlaki is a traditional dish made with marinated chicken skewers grilled to perfection, often served with pita, tzatziki, and fresh vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (700g) boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 4-6 hours.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  4. Thread the marinated chicken onto the skewers evenly.
  5. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Grill the chicken skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and nicely charred.
  7. Serve hot with pita bread, tzatziki, and your favorite fresh vegetables.
