Description

Beef Tips and Rice is a classic comfort food dish made with tender beef simmered in a savory brown gravy, served over fluffy rice. It’s hearty, satisfying, and perfect for weeknight dinners or cozy weekends.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs beef stew meat or sirloin tips
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water (for slurry)
  • 3 cups cooked white rice (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add beef tips and brown on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Work in batches if necessary.
  2. Remove beef and set aside. In the same pan, add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Return beef to the pan. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until beef is tender.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water. Stir the slurry into the beef mixture and cook for another 3–5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
  5. Serve hot over cooked white rice and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a splash of red wine when browning the beef.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or a green salad.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheat well.
