Description

A flavorful and healthy Chinese takeout-inspired dish featuring tender chicken and crisp broccoli in a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken slices and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 3-4 minutes until they are tender yet still crisp. You can add a splash of water if necessary to help steam the broccoli.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, water, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper.
  5. Return the chicken to the pan and pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and broccoli. Stir to coat everything evenly and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add chili flakes or fresh sliced chili to the sauce.
  • If you prefer, you can substitute the chicken with tofu for a vegetarian option.
  • Be sure to not overcook the broccoli to maintain its crunch and vibrant color.
