Description

A hearty and comforting baked pasta dish that combines the flavors of chicken parmesan with the ease of a casserole.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix cooked pasta, shredded chicken, and marinara sauce until well combined.
  4. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Top evenly with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  6. In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs, olive oil, garlic powder, and dried basil.
  7. Sprinkle breadcrumb mixture over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the casserole is bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.

Notes

  • You can use rotisserie chicken for convenience.
  • Add crushed red pepper for a spicier version.
  • This dish freezes well for make-ahead meals.
