Description

Classic Caramel Sauce is a rich, buttery topping made from just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for drizzling over ice cream, pancakes, cakes, or using in your favorite desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly with a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon. The sugar will form clumps and eventually melt into a thick amber liquid.
  2. Once completely melted, carefully add the butter. The mixture will bubble up vigorously—stir until the butter is fully melted and incorporated.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Again, the sauce will bubble up. Let it boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt (if using).
  5. Allow to cool slightly before using. Sauce will thicken as it cools.

Notes

  • Use caution when working with hot sugar—it can burn quickly.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stove before serving.
