Description
Easy Butterscotch Sauce is a rich, buttery, and sweet dessert topping made with just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for drizzling over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, or stirring into coffee.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add brown sugar and stir until fully combined and bubbling, about 2 minutes.
- Slowly stir in the heavy cream and continue to cook, stirring constantly, for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Sauce will thicken more as it cools.
Notes
- Use dark brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.
- Store leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks; reheat gently before using.
- Add a splash of bourbon or rum for an adult twist.
