Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked Italian sausage or pepperoni slices
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (plus extra for serving)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Flour for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, divide pizza dough into 2 or 4 equal pieces and roll each into an 8-inch circle.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and your choice of cooked sausage or pepperoni.
- Spoon the filling onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1/2-inch edge. Add a spoonful of pizza sauce if desired.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press and crimp the edges to seal.
- Transfer calzones to the baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops for a golden finish.
- Cut a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let cool slightly before serving with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Customize with your favorite fillings like mushrooms, spinach, or ham.
- Make ahead and freeze unbaked calzones for a quick meal later.
- Ensure the edges are sealed well to prevent leaks during baking.
