Description

This Easy Homemade Calzone Recipe delivers a golden, crispy crust stuffed with gooey cheese, savory meats, and your favorite pizza fillings. It’s a fun and delicious alternative to pizza that’s simple to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked Italian sausage or pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (plus extra for serving)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a floured surface, divide pizza dough into 2 or 4 equal pieces and roll each into an 8-inch circle.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and your choice of cooked sausage or pepperoni.
  4. Spoon the filling onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1/2-inch edge. Add a spoonful of pizza sauce if desired.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press and crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Transfer calzones to the baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops for a golden finish.
  7. Cut a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Customize with your favorite fillings like mushrooms, spinach, or ham.
  • Make ahead and freeze unbaked calzones for a quick meal later.
  • Ensure the edges are sealed well to prevent leaks during baking.
