Description
Easy Meat Sauce is a rich and savory tomato-based sauce made with ground beef, garlic, onions, and herbs. Perfect for serving over pasta, layering in lasagna, or freezing for quick weeknight meals.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and sugar if using. Stir to combine.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and flavors develop.
- Serve over pasta or use in your favorite Italian dishes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Use ground turkey or Italian sausage for variation.
- Doubles well for freezing—store in airtight containers up to 3 months.
- Add chopped carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
