Description
Egg in a Hole is a simple, delicious breakfast where an egg is cooked in the center of a slice of bread. It’s crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside, making for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Optional: herbs like chives or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Using a round cutter or the rim of a glass, cut a hole in the center of the bread slice.
- Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and melt the butter.
- Place the bread slice in the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the bread starts to crisp up on the bottom.
- Crack an egg into the hole of the bread and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the egg white is set but the yolk is still runny. You can cover the pan with a lid to help cook the egg evenly.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Use a spatula to carefully flip the bread over and cook for another 1-2 minutes, depending on your preference for yolk consistency.
- Remove from the skillet, garnish with herbs (if desired), and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can also use a cookie cutter to create different shapes, such as a heart or star, for fun variations.
- For a firmer yolk, flip the bread earlier in the cooking process and cook a little longer.
- If you prefer a fully cooked egg, you can cover the pan for a few extra minutes to ensure the egg is cooked through.
