Description
A grilled BBQ burger is a juicy, flame-cooked beef patty slathered in smoky barbecue sauce and topped with cheese, crispy onions, and your favorite fixings—perfect for summer cookouts.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
- Lettuce, tomato, and pickles (optional)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for grilling)
Instructions
- Preheat a grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
- Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties, pressing a small indentation in the center of each. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Grill the patties for 4–5 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, brush each patty with BBQ sauce and top with a slice of cheddar cheese. Close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill, cut side down, for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Assemble the burgers: place patties on buns and top with crispy fried onions, and optional lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Drizzle with extra BBQ sauce if desired.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure burgers reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Swap cheddar for pepper jack or smoked gouda for a flavor twist.
- Can be made with turkey or plant-based patties as a variation.
