Description

Gyeran Bap is a simple, comforting Korean dish made with steamed rice, a fried egg, and a variety of seasonings. It’s a quick and satisfying meal often enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • Kimchi (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Crack the egg into the pan and fry until the white is set, but the yolk remains runny. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl, place the cooked rice and add soy sauce, sesame seeds, gochugaru, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  4. Place the seasoned rice into a serving bowl.
  5. Top the rice with the fried egg.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve with kimchi if desired.

Notes

  • You can adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or less gochugaru.
  • If you prefer a more savory flavor, add a bit more soy sauce or a dash of fish sauce.
  • For a vegetarian version, simply omit the kimchi or use a plant-based alternative.
