Description

Mexican Cabbage Slaw is a zesty, colorful side dish made with shredded cabbage, fresh cilantro, and lime juice—perfect for tacos, grilled meats, or as a refreshing salad on its own.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage (optional for color)
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine shredded green and purple cabbage, carrots, cilantro, green onions, and jalapeño (if using).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together lime juice, olive oil, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss well to combine.
  4. Let the slaw sit for at least 10–15 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Serve chilled or at room temperature as a side or taco topping.

Notes

  • Can be made a few hours in advance—just stir before serving.
  • Adjust lime and jalapeño to taste for desired brightness and heat.
  • Try adding diced mango or avocado for a twist.
