Description
Monte Cristo sliders are a mini, sweet-and-savory take on the classic sandwich, made with ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, and Hawaiian rolls, baked and dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
- 12 Hawaiian rolls, sliced in half
- 6 slices deli ham
- 6 slices deli turkey
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Raspberry preserves for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place the bottom halves of the rolls in the baking dish.
- Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise and/or Dijon mustard on the rolls, if using.
- Layer ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese evenly over the rolls. Cover with the top halves.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour evenly over the sliders.
- Brush the tops with melted butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes until tops are golden.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving. Serve with raspberry preserves if desired.
Notes
- Use thick-sliced meat and cheese for a more substantial slider.
- You can assemble sliders ahead and refrigerate overnight before baking.
- For a crispier bottom, bake uncovered for the last few minutes.
