Description

Red, White, and Blue Fourth of July Cake is a vibrant and festive layered dessert made with colorful vanilla cake layers and topped with fluffy frosting and patriotic decorations—perfect for celebrating Independence Day.

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water)
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • 1 tub (16 oz) vanilla or cream cheese frosting
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • Optional: fresh strawberries and blueberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare cake mix according to package instructions.
  3. Divide batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one plain (white), tint one with red food coloring, and one with blue.
  4. Pour each colored batter into its own prepared cake pan and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  5. Once cooled, level cake layers if needed. Place blue layer on a cake plate and spread a thin layer of frosting on top.
  6. Add the white layer, frost again, then top with the red layer.
  7. Frost the entire cake with remaining frosting.
  8. Decorate with red, white, and blue sprinkles and optional fresh berries.
  9. Chill for 30 minutes before slicing for clean layers.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for bold colors without thinning the batter.
  • Substitute homemade cake and frosting for a from-scratch version.
  • For extra flair, add a surprise sprinkle center or flag pattern inside the cake.
