Description

Skillet Fried Corn is a Southern classic made with sweet corn kernels sautéed in butter with onions and a touch of cream. It’s a rich, comforting side dish that’s perfect for barbecues, holiday dinners, or everyday meals.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Pinch of sugar (optional)
  • Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in corn kernels and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until corn is tender and starting to brown.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if desired.
  5. Stir in heavy cream (if using) and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through and slightly thickened.
  6. Garnish with green onions or parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh corn when in season for the best flavor and texture.
  • The heavy cream adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter version.
  • Pairs well with grilled meats, fried chicken, or holiday roasts.
