- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or 2 cups prepared mashed potatoes (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, green bell pepper, and garlic until beef is browned and vegetables are soft. Drain excess fat.
- Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and chili powder. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Pour the beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Arrange biscuit dough on top or spread mashed potatoes if using.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown or potatoes are lightly browned and heated through.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
- For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
