Description

Sloppy Joe Casserole is a hearty, family-friendly dish that combines the classic flavors of sloppy joes with a comforting baked casserole. Made with ground beef, tangy tomato sauce, and topped with golden biscuits or cheese, it’s perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or 2 cups prepared mashed potatoes (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, green bell pepper, and garlic until beef is browned and vegetables are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and chili powder. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Pour the beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  6. Arrange biscuit dough on top or spread mashed potatoes if using.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown or potatoes are lightly browned and heated through.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
