- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a separate large bowl, mix the flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean towel. Let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them in the prepared pan.
- Cover the pan and let the dough rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
- Pan de Mallorca is typically served with coffee or hot chocolate in Puerto Rico.
- If you prefer a richer flavor, you can substitute milk with buttermilk.
- For extra sweetness, you can also glaze the bread with a simple sugar syrup after baking.
