Description

A delightful pastry featuring a buttery, flaky dough filled with sweet cream cheese and fresh strawberries, perfect for a breakfast treat or dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine milk, sugar, salt, egg, and the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour to form a dough.
  3. Roll the dough into a rectangle, place cubed butter on one side, fold over, and roll out again. Repeat folding and rolling 3–4 times. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  4. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth to make the filling.
  5. Roll out chilled dough and cut into squares. Place a dollop of cream cheese filling and strawberry slices in the center of each.
  6. Fold corners or edges inward and seal lightly. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush pastries with egg wash made by beating 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water.
  8. Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough thoroughly for best layering and flakiness.
  • You can substitute strawberries with other berries or fruits of choice.
  • Dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness and presentation.
